Eastbury Flood Alleviation Scheme

The river Lambourn was prone to flooding at Eastbury and as part of the measures to prevent floods a weir and dam was built just above Eastbury. A regulated amount of water is allowed to flow downstream and if the water flow increases the water is held back by the weir and dam and the current through Eastbury can be adjusted. The scheme prevents flash flooding and gives residents notice of flood conditions so that preventative measures can be taken. The facility opened in 2015.

Liz Goodman, Hon Chair of the EVFPA charity involved in steering the project and fundraising said “Flooding has affected our village on more than one occasion in recent years and, whilst the new Flood Alleviation Scheme, that was opened last month, will drastically reduce the likelihood of a repeat, there are no absolute guarantees when it comes to nature”
