Record Crowds Turn Out for Lambourn Carnival Parade 2026

Lambourn was filled with colour, music and community spirit as record crowds turned out for the 2026 Lambourn Carnival Parade.

The procession attracted an impressive number and variety of entries, ranging from enormous articulated lorry trailers covered in colourful decorations to imaginative walking entries. Months of planning and many hours of hard work had clearly gone into the costumes and floats, providing a wonderful spectacle for the crowds lining the village streets.

The Highland band brought stirring music to the occasion, while the procession was led, as tradition demands, by a fire engine from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Despite forecasts warning of rain, not a single drop fell during the parade. Instead, participants and spectators enjoyed excellent carnival weather, adding to the cheerful atmosphere throughout the village.

Lambourn’s carnival tradition dates back to the 1930s. Historic photographs show how the event has evolved from modest fancy dress processions and horse drawn vehicles to the large and colourful floats seen today. What has remained constant is the enthusiasm of local families, clubs, businesses and organisations, together with the crowds who come out to support them. Trophies were awarded across six categories for the carnival parade entries. Certificates were also presented to those taking part in the Lambourn sunflower competition, hanging basket competition and, of course, the ever popular scarecrow competition.

A huge thank you must go to the Lambourn Carnival Committee for organising another tremendous event and ensuring that this historic tradition continues. Thanks must also go to Lambourn Sports Club for hosting the start of the procession, as well as to the many volunteers, marshals, participants and supporting organisations who helped everything run smoothly.

Finally, thank you to everyone who gave so generously to the collectors along the route. The collecting buckets were kept busy throughout the parade, and all the money raised will be used for charitable purposes.

The 2026 parade once again demonstrated why the carnival has remained one of Lambourn’s best loved community occasions for generations. It was colourful, cheerful, occasionally noisy and wonderfully Lambourn.
