An update from Howard Woollaston, West Berkshire Conservative District Councillor for Lambourn Ward, Executive Portfolio Holder for Internal Governance:

“It was agreed this morning by West Berkshire District Council that the racing industry will be treated the same way as retail and leisure in terms of Business Rate holidays and Government Grants – great news for Lambourn and the Valley.”

The government has already published that businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors in England will not have to pay business rates for the 2020 to 2021 tax year. For West Berkshire this now includes the Racing Industry.

You’re eligible if your property is a:

  • shop
  • restaurant, café, bar or pub
  • cinema or live music venue
  • assembly or leisure property – for example, a sports club, a gym or a spa
  • hospitality property – for example, a hotel, a guest house or self-catering accommodation
