Lambourn sewers stop overflowing on Newbury Street

For the past 24 hours the manhole on Newbury street has remained firmly closed without sewage escaping. This is a welcome improvement to all as cars no longer drive through untreated sewage and spread it to other parts of Lambourn. The stopped flow is likely to be the result of many factors including groundwater levels reducing, as well as significant Thames Water activities including tankering and bypass pumping. Whatever the reason, Lambourn can be pleased that at least one aspect of the sewage situation has for now improved.

At this week’s Lambourn Parish Council Meeting, Martyn Wright updated councillors and members of the public about the state of the SAGLUV initiative to address the issues with the Lambourn sewers, not only in the short Term but also to prevent future issues. Martyn, Chair of SAGLUV, commented that working relationships have been established with Thames Water at a senior level. Thames Water has issued a report which addresses the problems faced by the Lambourn Valley. SAGLUV are actively reviewing the report and will be commenting on it at a future date. An action oriented approach was advocated by Martyn.

Instigated by Lambourn.Org, the petition to compel Thames Water to permanently fix the issues is still running and will be submitted to Thames Water shortly. We just need another 100 signatures to bring the total to 1000! Here is the link: https://www.change.org/LambournSewage
