The event was organised by village local, Claire Fairchild who initially thought that it would be a wonderful idea to hold an event free of charge to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday.  Through the power of Facebook, Claire began to get the ball rolling and held her first Meeting on the 7th May 2016 to see if there was anyone else interested in making this happen.  Fortunately, 11 wonderful people of the village turned up eager and willing to help make Claire’s vision become a reality.  Within 5 weeks, Claire and her team (Eileen Horton, Susan Williams, Patsy Pullen, Jane Giddings, Michaela and Mark Looker, Lynette Pitcher, Laura Pitcher, Dani Pottinger and Alex Mackinney) organised the Ultimate Free of Charge Street Party.  The union jack filled celebrations included Face Painting by Michaela Looker and her team, Lucky Dip, Party food including jelly and ice cream and ice lollies, goodie bags, giant board games, fun fair ride and bouncy castle. An entertainer/magician also entertained the children with 3, half hour sessions and the children were enthralled.  After all of this and before the evening entertainment began the entire party joined together to sing Happy Birthday to her Majesty before blowing out the candles.
The entertainment proceeded into the evening from 19:00 hours with a “Britain’s got Talent” Competition and more prizes and fun for the children and adults and a free BBQ finishing with a disco. The atmosphere throughout the whole day and evening was magical and amazing and the joy and laughter from the children was truly infectious.

Claire and her team would like to convey much gratitude and thanks to all of the local businesses who supported the celebrations and enabled us to make this possible.  The event would not have been possible without the funding from: Lambourn Parish Council, Royal British Legion, The Wheelwright Arms and The Lambourn Cafe.  Also, the generous contributions of food and donations of prizes from Neil Richards – Lambourn Butchers, Elite Foods, Simon Hobbs – Cake Design, RGB Communications, The Lambourn Cafe, Devonia Bakery, Market Hair, Graham Jones – Lambourn Pharmacy, Co-op, Fruit and Veg Stall at the Market, Gilberts Butchers at the Market, Lambourn Universal Stores, McCalls Newsagents and Pottinger Taxi’s.
