Thames Water Hosts Community Information Meeting in Lambourn
Thames Water held a well-attended community information meeting at the Memorial Hall in Lambourn, offering local residents the opportunity to learn more about the upcoming sewer refurbishment and preparations for the coming winter and spring seasons. The event saw members of the Thames Water team on hand to address concerns and answer questions, while representatives from the Environment Agency were also present to provide updates on the condition of the River Lambourn.
The Memorial Hall was filled with informative displays, including maps and leaflets that clearly outlined the flows of both the sewer system and local watercourses. These resources helped residents gain a better understanding of the planned improvements and how they will impact the community, particularly during periods of rising groundwater levels.
Local feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees expressing gratitude for the opportunity to discuss their concerns directly with experts. One resident remarked, “It was incredibly useful to speak to the people who really know what’s going on. The maps and explanations made it much easier to understand the work that’s being done.”
Key elements of the sewer refurbishment include the relining of the main sewer in Upper Lambourn, as well as the sealing of manhole covers to prevent water from entering the system and sewage from escaping. Despite these measures, Thames Water anticipates capacity issues as groundwater levels rise later in the year, a recurring challenge for the village.
To mitigate this, the ATAC (Above-ground Temporary Additional Capacity) processing unit will once again be installed near the fire station to relieve pressure on the sewer system during peak groundwater periods.
Thames Water’s proactive engagement with the community and the clear communication provided at the meeting were seen as valuable steps in addressing local concerns about infrastructure and environmental management ahead of the winter months.
