New round of Members’ Bids to support town and parish projects for Covid-19 recovery work
West Berkshire Council has announced £43,000 to support its towns and parishes in their recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. This new local grant scheme provides funds at the most local level to help residents across the district.
The Council has set aside a portion of its central Government Covid grant to fund this scheme in support of the district’s Recovery Strategy, which is due to be approved at the Executive on 16 July.
Each of the District’s West Berkshire Councillors (Members) will be able to apply for a grant up to £1,000 for a local project that supports one or more of the Council’s priorities for recovery as set out in the Recovery Strategy:
(1) The health of our population
(2) The educational success of the district
(3) The economic success of West Berkshire
(4) A strong and supported community sector
(5) An environmentally focussed renewal
(6) An enhanced openness of how we work and sharing of information
(7) The enhanced quality of life of our communities
Members will be able to apply at any time during the next six months and the funding should be used within six months of approval.
Councillor Lynne Doherty, Leader of West Berkshire Council, commented:
“As part of our Recovery Strategy from the Covid-19 outbreak, we are keen to support recovery work within our towns and parishes. With this in mind we have decided to dedicate a portion of our new Government Covid funding to town and parish councils for use in local recovery projects.
“Each of our District Councillors will be able to bid for up to £1,000 of capital or revenue spend for their Ward that does not require match funding for their local areas. Where a Ward has more than one Member they will be able to combine their allocations.
“These grants should enable each area to identify truly local initiatives that will assist their residents most in need as we move forward.”
