Remembrance Day 2018
This years Remembrance day was of special importance as the 100 Years Commemoration of WW1. Once again the weather was very kind to us, as the previous day was exceptionally wet!
The Ven Christine Allsopp officiated, with the choir from St Michael and All Angels’ Church singing hymns.
The Exhortation was spoken by the Lambourn Royal British Legion branch president Margaret Leahy and the Kohima Epitaph was spoken by Mike Laurence.
Standards were paraded at the war memorial, for The Royal British Legion, Lambourn Womens’ Section and the Brownies
Wreaths were laid by Margaret Leahy for The Royal British Legion, Anna Bradford for Royal British Legion, Ladies Section, Malcolm Rolfe -Lambourn Sports Club, Peter Penfold -Lambourn Parish Council, Mick Dowdeswell – Lambourn Community, Lambourn Fire Brigade, 77 Brigade at Hermitage, the Parachute Regiment, the Churches of Lambourn, the Brownies and the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes.
Two ‘silent soldiers’ were stationed in the war memorial and villagers had painted 100 rocks as part of the ongoing ‘Lambourn on the Rocks’ group and laid them at their feet in a colourful tribute.
Added to the special occasion of 100yrs commemoration this year was Chloe Quick on her horse which she had decorated with poppies and they became quite a sensation. It was an exceptionally commendable gesture.
After the laying of the wreaths, the service continued in the church and then followed by a buffet at The Royal British Legion Club
