‘Operation Poppy Rock 2018’

December 2018

This year, for the 100th Anniversary of WW1, Lambourn had two ‘silent soldiers’ placed in the Church War Memorial area, with thanks to Lambourn Parish Council for purchasing. They became quite a talking point amongst the adults and children and they were interested to know why they were there.

‘Lambourn on the Rocks’ creator, Angela Simpson came up with the idea of the group painting 100 Poppy rocks for the children to find, once found, the Rock should then be taken and placed at the feet of the ‘silent soldiers’ in this way the anniversary became a talking point for them and encouraged them to ask and understand the significance of the ‘silent soldiers’.

‘Operation Poppy Rock’ was a great success.  On November 11th at the Wreath laying service, all the Rocks were in place as a mark of respect.

Following this, the Poppy rocks were so popular that folk asked if they could purchase one, this was organised and all proceeds to be given to The Royal British Legion Poppy fund.  On December 5th, Angela Simpson, Sophie Puffett and Tracey Ann Fisher presented Lambourn British Legion with a grand sum of £105.  An amazing donation.
