Nigel Jenks (+Dec 2019)
December 9th 2019
It was with great sadness that we learnt of the death last week of one of ‘Lambourn’s Sons Nigel Jenks.
There will be a memorial service for Nigel on Monday 16th December 2019 at 2.30pm at St Michael and All Angels Church where the family would like to extend an invitation to all of his friends to join them in this Celebration. They kindly ask for no flowers but there will be a collection to be split between the Hungerford Nursing Home, that looked after Nigel so well, and The National Brain Appeal.
Nigel was the son of Ann and Gavin Jenks who in their own right were well known and respected in the village so it was only to be expected that Nigel would follow in their footsteps!
Everyone knew Nigel and those that didn’t…missed out! He was well known and loved by so many, which became apparent when reading the dozens of messages on Lambourn Community Facebook page when his death was announced.
Nigel spent much time in hospital during his younger days but that did nothing to deter him, he bounced back and where there was help required, he was there, whether it was helping with the ‘mother and baby group’ Jumble Sales, the parties at Baydon House, dancing with the residents, organising Bus Trips to Weymouth or sitting on the Parish Council he found the time to lend a hand, but he was mainly remembered and renowned for his involvement in collecting for ‘Children in Need’ and could be seen in his usual attire including brightly coloured hair and difficult to miss! he would walk up and down the High Street rattling his bucket and would you dare to walk past without being relieved of your change!! …never!
He loved dressing up for Carnival Day in all sorts of weird and wonderful outfits, walking around the village ensuring he again relieved you of your pennies, with his hair in, not so delicate shades of pink, mauve, blue or any colour appropriate for the day.
Lambourn has lost one of its great characters who will always be fondly remembered by so many for so many reasons and for giving us all many happy memories.
On behalf of Lambourn Community our sincere condolences go to Nigel’s siblings and family.
Thank you, Nigel, for giving so much to our community, Rest in Peace our friend.

So sorry to read this sad news. I can’t relate how we knew Nigel here, but we as a family have some treasured memories.
RIP our friend, Lambourn will never be the same xx
We were friends of Nigel’s from Staffordshire and are so very sad to hear of this news, so belatedly. We spent so many happy times with Nigel. He was such amazing fun. The friendship began when he met my sister and brother in law on holiday in Majorca in the early 80’s. This led to a family friendship with Nigel. We came to the Lambourn carnival one year and Nigel’s 50th. He came to stay with in Penkridge regularly at Christmas/New Year – great fun, as you can imagine, such happy memories. We recall him turning up one year with the most enormous turkey. We kept in touch with lovely presents and cards from Nigel at Christmas time. We last saw him in Telford for lunch – another great memory. Then the communication stopped and we wondered why. We are deeply sorry that we have not been able to join you in celebrating Nigel’s amazing life. My family and I offer my condolences to Nigel’s family. He has special place in our hearts.
Hello Tina, thank you for your communication. Yes, it was sad to loose Nigel, he was a larger than life figure in the village but interesting to read your memories of him. I am in contact with his niece and I will pass your kind sentiments on to her. Regards Liz (Lambourn Website)
