The village is only five miles away from Junction 14 of the M4 making travel to London and Bristol very fast and convenient. Traveling through Wantage (8 miles) the A34 is only 12 miles away and provides fast links to Oxford, Warwick and Birmingham. Lambourn has a good selection of bus links to Newbury, Hungerford and Swindon. A funded school bus takes pupils to the nearest secondary school in Hungerford. Railway commuting is also possible with mainline railway stations at Swindon (15 miles) and Didcot (17 miles) where high speed trains leave for London Paddington and Bristol as well as Manchester via Birmingham. Newbury (13 miles) also has a railway station connecting with the West Country and the main line at Reading. Commuter trains for London also call at Hungerford station which is only 8 miles away and has ample car parking at the station.
Community life.
Lambourn is a working village where much of the activities centre around outdoor pursuits and the horse racing industry. There are thought to be over 2000 racehorses in training in the Lambourn Valley. The village offers a real community atmosphere and has its own nursery and primary school. A secondary school and sixth form college is nearby. Lambourn also has its own library which provides useful resources for residents of all ages.
The village atmosphere can be experienced within a variety of community social and sports clubs. The village organises many annual events such as a carnival, a racing yard open day and many other events which are well attended by the community. There are a number of churches with active communities and regular church services. The Lambourn Surgery has a thriving practice of GP’s with excellent facilities right in the heart of the village. It is complimented by a dentist practice just off the Market Place and a community pharmacy to dispense medicines.

Lambourn nestles in the valley of the river Lambourn, surrounded by the beautiful rolling Downland which is famous for the gallops where many a winning racehorse is trained. There are miles of footpaths and bridleways which can be explored without having to cross a single road. It is the ideal place if you are looking for peace and quiet without being too far away from civilisation.
Shopping and leisure facilities.
The village of Lambourn has many facilities often only found in larger villages including a library, two grocery shops, two hairdressers, a chemist, a bakery, a butcher and a number of other shops. The Lambourn Universal Stores is legendary for its wide range of goods from teapots to coal. The excellent Spice Valley Indian Restaurant is a treat for anyone who enjoys Indian cooking and wants to leave the car in the garage. The village also has a number of sports and social clubs including tennis, bowls, football and of course cricket. The nearby towns of Hungerford, Wantage, Newbury and Swindon offer a wider choice of high street and specialist shops. In Lambourn one is never far away from horses and the village is ideally located for anyone who enjoys riding at any level from the total novice to competitive racing. The Lambourn Centre in the heart of the village boasts a fully equipped air conditioned gym as well as a sports hall and sauna. The beautiful setting around Lambourn provides the ideal environment for outdoor pursuits and walks.
The Ridgeway long distance footpath runs 4 miles from Lambourn and the famous White Horse is just 5 miles away. The River Lambourn – designated by English Nature as a Site of Special Scientific Interest – rises near the village in the chalk of the Berkshire Downs and flows through to Newbury, where it joins the River Kennet.
There are many aspects of Lambourn itself and the surrounding area which provide entertainment and interesting days out for all the family including Ashdown House, which is a National Trust property and Donnington Castle. Lambourn itself also gives its name to the popular Lambourn Valley Cider Company – which uses Berkshire-grown apples to produce authentic local cider – a must for scrumpy-lovers.
