Lambourn unites to address substance abuse
Collaboration and education were the central themes of a workshop held in Lambourn yesterday, where more than 30 organisations and individuals gathered to explore ways the community can address the issue of substance abuse.
“While substance abuse in Lambourn is no more prevalent than in other rural areas, we are committed to coming together to support those affected and prevent others from falling into harmful habits,” said Christian Noll, the event’s organiser. “Substance abuse not only devastates the lives of those involved but also impacts their families and friends. As a community, we can unite to offer help.”
The workshop, organised by The Lambourn Junction CIC, featured a keynote presentation by Jason Kew, former Detective Chief Inspector of Thames Valley Police and now the Combating Drugs Partnership Lead at Berkshire Council. His address dispelled several common misconceptions and provided a comprehensive overview of the issue.
The event was described as unprecedented by one attendee, who remarked on the rare convergence of so many organisations, public bodies, employers, and individuals working collaboratively to address substance abuse.
Many participants had not previously met or were even aware of the range of skills and services available within and to the community. The workshop provided a vital platform for collaboration, not just during the event but extending beyond it. Attendees shared ideas, insights, and resources, forging new connections that will strengthen the local response to substance abuse.
In addition to the formal action plan established during the workshop, each participant pledged to take a personal step, beyond their usual responsibilities, to help tackle substance abuse in the Lambourn Valley.
The Lambourn Junction will take the lead in building the action plan which will focus the resources of the many organisations for the benefit of the residents of the Lambourn Valley.
The Lambourn Junction thanks Lambourn Parish Council for providing the meeting room and facilities.
