Lambourn Open Day 18th April 2025

Stars Out at the 2025 Peter O’Sullevan

Lambourn Open Day
Lambourn, Berkshire – Racing fans are in for a spectacular day as the Peter O’Sullevan
Lambourn Open Day returns on Good Friday, 18 April 2025 after last year’s event was
abandoned due to water logging. This much-loved annual Charity event throws open the
doors to over 20 training yards, giving the public a rare behind-the-scenes look at the heart
of the racing world.
From the legendary Seven Barrows, home to Nicky Henderson and stars including
Constitution Hill, Jonbon and Jango Baie, to rising stars across the village.
Jamie Snowden won his first ever Grade 1 victory at Aintree on Friday with Julius de Picton.
Snowden is basking in the Grade 1 victory, he said: “We’d been campaigning him mainly over
two and two and a half miles this season but then the better ground came along. His stamina
was a bit of an unknown but he’s bred for it and he stayed well. That’s our first Grade 1. We’ve
been placed in plenty of them and had Cheltenham Festival winners but that’s very special! We
had a good celebration after he won and we’ll throw a party for our stable staff at the end of
season. We’ve already surpassed our record number of winners and prize money which is
testament to them. The Lambourn Open Day showcases how hard our team work and we look
forward to welcoming people to Folly House on Good Friday!”
Snowden added: “Julius Des Pictons is done for the season now and we look forward to what he
can do next season!”
Lambourn continues to cement its reputation as a powerhouse for elite Flat racing talent,
with a host of top-class trainers enjoying major success over the past 12 months. Ed Walker
heads into the new season with high hopes after winning the Prix de l’Abbaye with
Makarova, while Archie Watson enjoyed a brilliant year with two Group 1 victories, with
sprinter Bradsell. Roger Teal’s progressive colt Dancing Gemini impressed at Doncaster at
the Lincoln meeting. Owen Burrows enjoyed Group 1 glory thanks to Alflaila who shocked
some big names in the British Champion Stakes in October. Meanwhile, the ever-popular
Jamie Osborne and his daughter Saffie Osborne flew the flag internationally, making
headlines with a superb effort in the UAE Derby with Heart Of Honor on Saturday at
Meydan, going down by a heartbreaking nose.
In the afternoon, attention turns to the main arena, where the ever-popular Parade of Equine
Heroes, proudly sponsored by Windsor Clive International, will take centre stage. Legendary
names already confirmed include:

  • Dual Champion Chasers Altior and Sprinter Sacre
  • 2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Coneygree
  • Recent Midlands Grand National winner Mr. Vango

    Other standout attractions include:
Carisbrooke Stud Celebrity Showjumping, featuring stars such as Nico de Boinville, James
Bowen and A.P. McCoy. Schooling demonstrations over fences by leading jockeys – a rare
chance for fans to witness training techniques up close.
Mark Smyly, Chairman of the Lambourn Open Day, commented:
“We’re thrilled to welcome everyone back to Lambourn for this year’s event, especially after
the disappointment of last year’s cancellation. The Open Day is not only a chance for fans to
meet some of the sport’s biggest stars, but it also serves as a vital fundraiser for the
Lambourn community and horse racing as a whole. We’re looking forward to seeing the
yards buzzing and hope visitors enjoy everything the day has to offer.”
This Lambourn Open Day out raises funds for several important local charities, including the
Lambourn Valley Housing Trust, the Thames Valley Air Ambulance, and other local causes
that provide essential support to the Lambourn community.
