Lambourn Methodist Chapel – please help to preserve its memory
The former Methodist Chapel in Lambourn, a cherished part of the village’s history, is being given a new purpose by the Lambourn Almshouses. The once-bustling place of worship and education is undergoing a thoughtful transformation into housing for those in need, ensuring it continues to serve the community in a new way.
The chapel and its adjoining schoolrooms have long been at the heart of Lambourn’s social and cultural life. For decades, it hosted not only regular worship but also community meetings, local clubs, and societies. The building bore witness to countless happy celebrations, marking key moments in the lives of local residents. Many families have memories tied to the chapel—whether it be from attending services, community gatherings, or lessons held in the schoolrooms.
In an effort to preserve the history and legacy of the chapel, the Lambourn online museum is seeking to collect photographs, stories, and memorabilia from those who have been part of its story. The goal is to create a lasting tribute to the building’s role in the community, ensuring that its contributions to local life are not forgotten.
If you have any photographs of the chapel or its schoolrooms, or if you have personal stories or memories of how the chapel played a role in your life or your family’s life, please share them. Contributions can be sent via email to editor@lambourn.org, or by WhatsApp to Christian Noll at 07401489832. Your input will help enrich the village’s historical archive, keeping the memory of the chapel alive for future generations.
