Lambourn Junction and Lambourn Volunteers – here to help
Lambourn Helpline: 01488 505050
The Lambourn Junction and Lambourn Volunteers are continuing to support the local community in many different ways during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The Lambourn Volunteers are delivering prescriptions and groceries throughout the Lambourn Valley to those in the community who are unable to get out because of self-isolation or illness. The network of over fifty volunteers were recently commended by West Berkshire Council for their efforts in response to Covid-19 Pandemic. A separate award was received by the Lambourn Junction, the community based food distribution hub, based in Baydon House.
The volunteers have been driving local residents to their vaccination appointments at Newbury Racecourse, with most volunteers taking one household per week to lessen any risks. All drivers and passengers wear masks and the car windows are ajar to allow some air in to ventilate the vehicle on the way to and from the racecourse. They are also driving to appointments at the local surgery and hospitals. With the risk of infection still around, those who are vulnerable are not recommended to take public transport, therefore the volunteers have been able to meet the need to get to medical appointments and vaccinations.
The Lambourn Bakers opened up their recipe books to make cakes for the Vaccination Centre at Newbury. When I was dropping off someone for their vaccinations and I mentioned we had come from Lambourn, the person who was helping said they had eaten a delicious Rocky Road cake from Lambourn Bakers and to thank them for their efforts.
Our community continues to support one another, whether physically by driving or shopping, also in other ways. The donations received at the Lambourn Junction have been incredible.
The Lambourn Junction would not be able to offer the kind of generous help it does without the donations of household and food items from local residents. We have fresh supplies of bread, fruit and vegetables each week, alongside all the other store cupboard foods. Families and individuals are finding the continued Lockdown hard. It is increasing difficult when there is little opportunity to find work, children are at home as schools are closed and the weather is bitterly cold. Money gets spent on rent, bills, especially heating and this can reduce the amount available for good quality food.
The Lambourn Junction is open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 11am to 1pm and again on Thursday evenings, at Baydon House on the High Street. It is open to anyone who is finding it a struggle to make ends meet, no questions will be asked of you, please drop in if you find yourself needing some extra support with food and household items during these difficult times.
