Lambourn Community Orchard planted!

The fruit trees were planted on Saturday 19th December – just in time as it happened, because it would have been very difficult to have achieved it under the Tier 4 COVID restrictions which are now in place.
“Volunteers planted 29 fruit trees in total – 20 apple trees of 10 varieties, 4 pear trees of two varieties and 5 gage trees. Happily, two of the apple trees are a variety called Lord Lambourne. The wrong spelling for our village but a nice coincidence all the same and one has to remember that in the distant past Lambourn was spelt with an ‘e’ at the end.” said Gill, one of the organisers of the Community Orchard. “There will be a little light pruning to ensure that the trees start developing an open framework but essentially for the next couple of years,  we can sit back and watch them grow.”
