Lambourn Carnival Procession Set to Delight Village Once Again

Lambourn is gearing up for its annual Carnival Procession today, a beloved community tradition that has brought excitement to the Valley of the Racehorse for nearly a century. This year’s festivities promise a colourful display of floats, fancy dress, and local creativity as the parade winds through the village, capping off a summer of celebration.

The Lambourn Carnival, which dates back to the 1930s, is one of the village’s longest-running events, with roots deep in the community’s history. It all began as a simple local parade, but over the decades, it has grown into a multi-day festival that showcases the spirit and talent of Lambourn’s residents. Photographs from the 1930s to today reveal just how much the carnival has evolved, with many generations taking part in the festivities.

Held every August Bank Holiday weekend, the procession is the highlight of the Lambourn Carnival & Festival. While the event remains steeped in tradition, it continues to evolve, with modern additions such as the popular Scarecrow Competition and the Flower and Produce Show.

This year’s parade, scheduled for Sunday, August 25, promises to be just as impressive as in years past, with categories ranging from large floats to family fancy dress and even horse-drawn entries. Trophies and prizes await the most imaginative participants, while spectators line the streets to cheer on the colourful spectacle. The event remains a treasured highlight of village life and a testament to the enduring sense of community that Lambourn embodies.

As the village prepares for another procession, it’s clear that the Lambourn Carnival is more than just an event—it’s a celebration of the village’s rich heritage, creativity, and sense of togetherness, a tradition that shows no sign of slowing down.
