Howard Woollaston drives actions to address flood risk
Howard Woollaston, West Berkshire Councillor for the Lambourn Ward and Chair of the Flood Forum has sent a call to action to West Berkshire Councillors and others to drive actions to address the issue of flooding and sewage on the streets of villages in the Lambourn Valley.
Here is his letter which he kindly allowed Lamboun.Org to publish.
Addressed to West Berkshire Councillors who represent flooded areas and officers of West Berkshire Council:
As some of you may be aware I am also Chairman of the Lambourn Valley Flood Forum which covers the whole valley from Upper Lambourn down to where the river meets the Kennet. Parts of the valley have been badly affected by flooding particularly in my ward and around Newbury. I think we are the only Councillors that cover the area but please let me know if I have missed anyone. We had an Emergency Forum meeting on last Monday (Notes from the meeting can be found HERE )
As you will see, I suggested a cross party group be created to lobby Government, TW ,EA and WBC to get some action to try and prevent future flooding , in particular in the light of what appears to be climate change impact.
My suggestion is one member for each affected ward, so it does not become a talking shop and we actually get something done. I would like to get a Teams meeting set up late next week. Would appreciate your views. We probably need some officer support to do some legwork, so I have copied Jon in for a suggestion.
Kind Regards
Howard Woollaston
