Have your say on local bus services
In the autumn we’ll be submitting a Bus Services Improvement Plan to the Department for Transport. This will outline how we at the West Berkshire Council, alongside bus operators with services in the district, can increase use of bus services.
We’d like to restore bus services to its pre-pandemic level and thereafter increase passenger numbers, reduce congestion, carbon and pollution, help the disadvantaged and reduce the number of cars on our roads.
In order to achieve this, we have put together a survey asking for your views on local bus services in West Berkshire, and if you have any suggestions for possible improvements.
To take part, please read the consultation document and then complete the online survey by midnight on Friday 30 August 2021. The more responses we have to the survey, the better our Bus Services Improvement Plan will be for local residents, businesses and the economy.

Lambourn.Org: A bit of History – The 108 Bus Service
Once there were two routes operated by Alder Valley (originally Thames Valley Traction Co in this area) between Newbury and Swindon. There was the 106 via Hungerford and Ramsbury and the 108 via Lambourn. Fall in demand for public transport in the area lead to the complete withdrawal of the 106 and the reduction of the 108 to two through journeys and four shorts each way on Saturdays only. Part replacement for the services from the Swindon end were implemented as far as Lambourn on Mondays to Fridays by Thamesdown Transport. Proof of the low loadings can be seen in this view of Alder Valley Bristol VRT/ECW 975 (CJM115V) about to leave Lambourn with the 16:15 short working to Swindon on Saturday 15th Oct 1983.
