Thames Water Update

Thames Water has issued a further update to the residents of Lambourn

27 May 2020
Working in Lambourn

Hello,

I’m writing to you, and all Lambourn residents, because you may have noticed our tanker vehicles are no longer present and the activity in Newbury Road where we have dismantled and removed the filter unit and I wanted to explain why.

First and foremost, we would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued patience and understanding during this time. Due to the very high ground water levels being present over such a long period of time in the area, we appreciate the impact this has had in your village while we have tried to manage these flows to prevent flooding, pollution and restricted toilet use.

Before we made the decision to remove our tankers and filter unit, we carefully monitored the levels until we were happy the tankers were no longer required.

Our investigations during this time

You may have seen our team around Lambourn during this time, who have been investigating to try and identify points where the ground water is getting in through lifting manholes and using closed circuit television surveys (CCTV).

Our investigations have found various points of interest which we will now review to ensure any work we carry out has the best impact.

We still continue to investigate the network and therefore, you may still see us around. We have already identified a number of manholes along Tubbs Close, Foxbury and Sheep Drove Road where water is getting in.

Now we are happy we will no longer require the use of our tanker vehicles to manage high flows, our next point of action is to address the areas where damage has been caused to remedy this and put these areas back to how they were before.

Again, thank you for your understanding during this time, which we appreciate may be exasperated given the current climate so we hope this update is a welcome one.

Why we’re still working during the coronavirus pandemic

We’ve been identified as key workers providing an essential service by the government, and we’re dedicated to keeping your water and wastewater services running smoothly. Performing routine repairs and maintenance can remove the risk of more serious issues like burst pipes. These can cause interruptions and problems for customers – something we’re very keen to avoid at this already difficult time.

The safety and wellbeing of our customers and our staff is of the utmost importance to us. We’re constantly adapting our ways of working, following the latest government advice, to keep our teams and the communities we serve safe, while ensuring we deliver our critical services to the best of our abilities. We’re rescheduling non-essential work, and we’re happy to consider any requests that give you peace of mind.
