Dog Walking – Not by car
The police have said people should not be driving to undertake their daily exercise or to walk the dog. As residents of the Lambourn valley we are very lucky to be surrounded by open Downland with many footpaths where one can exercise dogs without coming into contact with others.
However this is not the picture across the country. Dog walkers at a Somerset beauty spots have been handed leaflets from the police advising them that driving to park up and take the dog for a walk breaches the ‘no unnecessary journeys’ part of the coronavirus lockdown.
The Police have advised dog walkers and other members of the public that they could soon have the powers to enforce that rule. Checkpoints have been set up in parts of the UK to check motorists are abiding by the rules.
The Government lockdown announcement on Monday included a line banning ‘unnecessary journeys’.
Overcrowded council car parks in Hampshire have prompted Hampshire County Council to close car parks at beauty spots.
