Lambourn History Trail Pilot Launched

Lambourn Valley History Trail Pilot Brings Local Stories to Life

The Lambourn Valley is steeped in history, from its distinctive buildings and monuments to its beautiful countryside and rich racing heritage. Yet, until now, much of this story has remained hidden in plain sight, with little interpretation available for residents and visitors alike.

The Lambourn Junction Community Interest Company has launched an exciting new pilot to change that.

The idea is simple. Small plaques featuring a QR code are placed at points of interest. Scan the code and you are taken straight to a short, three minute audio guide. There are no adverts, no links, and no distractions. Just a clear human voice explaining what you are looking at, as if a knowledgeable local guide were standing beside you.

The first pilot locations include St Michael and All Angels Church, Lambourn, the Lambourn Lychgate, the Lambourn Market Cross, and the Lambourn Almshouses, where temporary signs have already been installed.

If you cannot go to the sites you can still listen to the audio by clicking on the links above.

If the pilot proves successful, the project will expand across the valley. Plans include professionally designed signage and new locations covering historic sites, the River Lambourn, the former engineering works, and the village’s renowned racing yards.

Community feedback will be vital in shaping the next phase. If you support the initiative, or have ideas for locations to include, please get in touch at mail@lambournjunction.uk.

This is a chance to bring Lambourn’s story to life, one scan at a time.
