2009 Church Patronal Festival
We celebrated the Festival of St. Michael & All Angels over the weekend 26th & 27th September. To add a little variety this year we had a cake stall to greet visitors outside the church.
The church was beautifully decorated throughout with wonderful arrangements of flowers, many of them complementing the displays of vestments.
Much of the church plate was on display, some of it dating back to the 17th century. By contrast we also displayed “Mr Hand’some”, Lambourn CE Primary School’s prize-winning entry in this summer’s Dubai Summer Festival exhibition.
This year the Registers of Births, Marriages and Deaths focused on the 20th century, while archives relating to Enclosure Acts of the 1840s and early aerial photographs of the village drew much attention.
The weekend included a full programme of music with organ recitals by Dr Stephen Holmes, performances by the Lambourn Chimers, and a concert by The Swindon Male Voice Choir with guest soloist Emma Pooley.
With guided tours of the church, led by Malcolm Rolfe, a treasure hunt for the children and superb views of the village for those brave enough to climb the tower, our Patronal Festival was much enjoyed by all.
